In every organisation, people are the driving force behind progress, innovation and longterm success. But to truly thrive, colleagues need more than the right tools, policies or training — they need to feel well, supported and able to bring their best selves to work. At Centrica, we recognise that wellbeing isn’t a standalone initiative. It’s an everyday commitment that touches every aspect of life, from physical health and emotional resilience to mental clarity and confidence in the workplace.
Wellbeing has become one of the most defining issues for modern employers, not because it is fashionable, but because the evidence is clear: when people feel supported, healthy and able to manage the demands of work and life, organisations perform better. That’s why our approach goes beyond formal programmes and digital resources. We’re taking wellbeing out of the office and onto the road — meeting colleagues where they are.
A Mobile Approach to Modern Wellbeing
To ensure support is accessible to everyone, no matter their location, our MyHealth team operates two specially equipped British Gas Wellbeing on Wheels (WOW) vans. These mobile health hubs are designed to deliver highquality wellbeing consultations directly to colleagues across mainland UK — whether they’re at an office, a depot, a customer site or an event.

The idea is simple: remove barriers to access. By bringing wellbeing services closer to colleagues, we reduce the need for travel, increase participation and make it easier for people to proactively look after their health. This aligns with our broader wellbeing philosophy — one centred on enabling people to understand and manage their own health, supported by expert guidance, practical tools and the right environment to thrive.
Putting Personal Health Insights in the Hands of Colleagues
WOW vans can be booked for one-to-one assessments or deployed at roadshows and major events. At their heart is the 'Essential MOT' — a personalised health assessment that helps colleagues understand key metrics such as blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI, height and weight. These metrics not only provide valuable insight into current health but can also highlight early indicators of potential issues, enabling colleagues to take action before concerns escalate.
The vans also offer functional movement screening — an increasingly important component for colleagues in physically demanding roles. These assessments help identify imbalances, reduce injury risk and empower individuals to adopt healthier, safer movement patterns in their everyday work and home life. This proactive approach reflects our focus on holistic support, which is echoed throughout our wider health and wellbeing programmes.
A Growing Service Making a Measurable Difference
Demand for WOW van assessments continues to grow. In 2025 alone, the MyHealth team completed 140 workplace visits and delivered more than 1,000 assessments — more than double the number completed in 2024. This acceleration speaks volumes about the appetite for proactive wellbeing support and the confidence colleagues place in these services. Feedback has been consistently positive, with many colleagues highlighting how helpful it is to receive personalised, professional guidance within their working environment.
Beyond the numbers, the WOW programme demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations think creatively about wellbeing. Instead of expecting people to come to us, we are choosing to go to them — and in doing so, we’re helping to build a culture where wellbeing is visible, valued and part of everyday working life.
A Commitment That Keeps Evolving
As our business evolves, so too does our approach to supporting colleague health and wellbeing. The WOW vans are one example of how we’re creating accessible, human-centred ways to help people feel at their best. They complement a broader suite of wellbeing resources — from mental health support and digital tools to preventative care and colleague led initiatives — all designed to meet the diverse and changing needs of our workforce.
Our ambition is simple: to help every colleague be themselves and thrive, wherever they work and whatever their role may be. And by continuing to innovate, listen and respond to colleague feedback, we’re ensuring our wellbeing support remains relevant, inclusive and truly impactful.
