British Gas is spreading festive cheer to its business customers this Christmas, by offering half-price electricity every Wednesday, from 10am–3pm, starting from the 10th December until the 31st December – including Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
The PeakSave scheme is designed to support SMEs such as pubs, restaurants, and salons during one of the busiest times of the year, when many are lighting up storefronts, running seasonal promotions, and fulfilling last-minute orders. By cutting costs and encouraging greener energy use, British Gas is giving businesses a boost when they need it most.
So far, businesses taking part have collectively saved over £500,000 through PeakSave. Nearly 65,000 eligible businesses with smart meters have been invited to join the trial.

British Gas business customer, a retail business based in Livingston, shares how PeakSave for Business has benefited them: “Really easy to enroll in Peaksave and we enjoy the savings of several hundred pounds per year! An excellent program and one of the main reasons why we stay with British Gas as our preferred supplier!”
Another British Gas Business customer who owns a manufacturing business in Buckinghamshire, also shares the impact that the scheme has had on their business: “We received an email regarding PeakSave and it was very easy to enroll, I'm not sure exactly how much we saved but we did notice that it really did make a difference and make us feel good! Every little helps, especially when everything is so tight these days. I was delighted to receive the PeakSave opportunity, we are one of the smaller companies but our electricity bill is one of our main expenses, due to the machinery that we use heavily every day. We are grateful to have been asked to participate - look forward to more in the future please!”

British Gas also recommends simple, festive energy-efficient tips to help businesses reduce their energy costs:
- Switch to LED decorations – LED decorations typically use up to 80% less energy than traditional bulbs and last much longer – perfect for festive displays.
- Set timers for lights – Keep the sparkle going during business hours but avoid unnecessary overnight usage.
- Unplug during downtime – Before closing for the holidays, power down non-essential equipment to avoid phantom energy use.
- Choose eco-friendly gifts and wrapping – Sustainable packaging and digital cards help reduce waste and energy use.
