- Boilers make a high street comeback this year as British Gas and Currys revive the classic showroom experience
- Customers can browse, buy and arrange full installation in one seamless or online journey
- Launching from 21st May in selected Currys stores and online, with upfront installed pricing from £2642
From early-2000s fashion trends to retro retail experiences, cult high street classics have been making a comeback this year. And now one more is set to return, the humble boiler.
British Gas and Currys today announce a new partnership that brings boilers and air-conditioning units back into physical retail spaces for the first time in decades, reviving the hands-on showroom experience once made famous by British Gas high street “gas shops” in the 1960s — now refreshed for modern homes and modern expectations.
“This partnership brings together Currys’ retail reach and British Gas’s nationwide engineering expertise to create a simpler, more transparent way for customers to upgrade their home heating and cooling."
Shannon Manderson, Head of Retail Partnerships
The return isn’t just about nostalgia. For many households, upgrading delivers real, long-term benefits. Replacing an older boiler with a modern efficient system can reduce energy bills by up to £180 per year1, while improving reliability and day-to-day performance.
The partnership brings modern air‑conditioning solutions to customers, at a time when demand has risen, as more people working from home choose to heat or cool a single room rather than the entire home. Running solely on electricity, these units appeal to households aiming to make lower‑carbon, energy‑efficient choices.
By making boilers and air-conditioning units easier to browse and buy in-store and online, the partnership gives customers more confidence to explore their options and plan upgrades at the right time. It also brings back a simpler, more hands‑on way to shop, combining Currys’ retail expertise with British Gas’s trusted engineers to make home upgrades clearer and more accessible.
Launching from 21st May across selected Currys stores2 and online at Currys.co.uk, the service arrives during what experts consider one of the smartest upgrade windows of the year. Replacing a boiler during the summer can mean better installation availability and fewer winter emergencies - making it the ideal moment for households to get ahead on important home maintenance tasks.
Customers can browse boilers and air-conditioning units in store or online, compare features, see clear installation-inclusive pricing and access flexible finance options provided by Currys. Boilers will be available from £2762, with air-conditioning units starting from £2642. All prices will include the appliance, full British Gas installation, standard materials required for straight-swap installs and manufacturer warranty, giving customers total price clarity from the moment they browse.
Shannon Manderson, Head of Retail Partnerships said: “This partnership brings together Currys’ retail reach and British Gas’s nationwide engineering expertise to create a simpler, more transparent way for customers to upgrade their home heating and cooling. It’s about removing complexity from a major household purchase and giving customers greater clarity from the moment they start shopping.”
Zoe Lucid, Senior Buyer at Currys added, “We’re proud to be partnering with British Gas to bring trusted heating and cooling solutions directly to our customers. By combining our nationwide retail footprint and customer expertise with British Gas’s industry-leading installation and servicing capabilities, we’re making it easier than ever for households to access reliable boilers and air conditioning systems with confidence, convenience and great value.”
The service will initially launch in 5 stores across the UK, with further expansion planned later this year. Together, British Gas and Currys are bringing a familiar retail experience back to British high streets - updated for today's technology, homes and customers.
